Job Description

Airswift is seeking a Civil Engineer to support a long-term assignment with a leading nuclear energy provider, focused on the North Anna Subsequent License Renewal (SLR) project.

This role is integral to the plant’s modernization efforts, involving design upgrades across structural and mechanical systems. The successful candidate will contribute technical expertise in structural, seismic, and stress analysis, ensuring regulatory compliance, nuclear safety, and long-term operational reliability. Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and the ability to communicate complex concepts effectively will be key to project success.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and review steel and concrete structures/components such as pipe supports, junction box mounts, and foundations.
  • Perform seismic and stress analysis to ensure equipment mounting and system modifications meet nuclear compliance standards.
  • Interpret and apply codes such as ACI, ASME, and ASCE related to rigging, lifting, and structural performance.
  • Review vendor-supplied civil engineering plans and ensure alignment with Dominion Energy specifications and regulatory guidelines.
  • Collaborate across mechanical, electrical, and regulatory teams to integrate design solutions across disciplines.
  • Identify and mitigate design risks while supporting field implementation teams with technical clarifications and solutions.
  • Maintain documentation rigor to support safety audits and licensing requirements.
  • Support project activities during outages, including some overtime and field visits (up to 1 week/month for non-local candidates).
  • Report project status and technical evaluations to internal leadership and stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of relevant civil or structural engineering experience in the energy or nuclear industry.
  • Experience in the design of steel and concrete components such as pipe supports, foundations, and junction box platforms.
  • Proficient in applying standards: ACI, ASCE, ASME codes (rigging/lifting design).
  • Demonstrated seismic analysis and mounting design experience.
  • Proficiency in design software such as Mathcad, STAAD, GTSTRUDL, or ANSYS (preferred).
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a high-compliance environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required; PE license or Master’s preferred.
  • Nuclear plant or regulatory experience (NRC/FERC standards) is a plus.
