Job Summary
The Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Supervisor is responsible for leading and managing the Clinical Documentation Improvement functions and Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist Nurses. The CDI Supervisor is an expert in the Clinical Documentation Improvement role and is responsible for leading the process of monitoring team and hospital performance, collection and analysis of data, and to ensure overall success of the CDI program. The CDI Supervisor will work with Physicians, CDIS, Coders, Coding Leadership, Medical Directors and other members of the healthcare team to ensure that the CDI program captures and promotes accurate and timely clinical documentation and represents appropriate data used for quality, severity and reimbursement measures. The CDI Supervisor works closely with the CDI system vendors for data reporting and program integrity. This role also ensures that all CDI staff are updated current Regulatory and Coding changes. The CDI Supervisor working closely with the Team Leads and is responsible for the ensuring Productivity and Quality standards are met as outlined in policies for each CDIS, as well as the reporting of this data monthly to staff and leadership.
Job Requirements
Education
Required: Graduate of an approved nursing program
Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
Experience
Required: 2 years' experience as a CDI Specialist or related experience
Required: 2 years’ minimum of management experience either as a Team Leader, Supervisor or Supervisor role within CDI or another Nursing Discipline OR Formal CDI/Physician education experience
Skills
Detailed knowledge of coding guidelines and the ability to apply coding guidelines, as well as coding clinic, when reviewing documentation in the medical record. Must have experience with detailed knowledge of the format, functions, and use of the medical record.
Detailed knowledge of MS DRG payment methodology.
Detailed knowledge of APR DRG payment methodology.
Detailed knowledge of SOI/ROM and Mortality measures.
Detailed knowledge of the CDI computer programs, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
Responsible for managing an entire staff and completion of annual/other evaluations.
Review of ETO schedules, floor assignments, weekend /holiday rotation coverage.
Ability to supervise the work of others and communicate effectively.
Provide education and one on one or groups settings.
Resolve conflict between CDI and IP Coding discrepancies and working with Medical Staff directly as needed.
Resolve conflict in accordance with Cox conduct policies.
Licensure/Certification/Registration
Required: MO RN License
Preferred: CDIP or CCDS
Preferred: CCS
