Commitment: 12-16 hours per week for the duration of the internship. The weekly schedule is flexible to accommodate class and work schedules. Must be available for orientation on Tuesday, August 12th, 2025. Must be available for presentation of project on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2025.

Stipend: Unpaid; school credit can be earned for this internship in most cases.

Position Summary: The Digital Marketing and Social Media Intern will support the marketing and communications department in enhancing Butterfly Pavilion's digital presence. This role will involve developing and implementing social media content, managing email marketing campaigns, and supporting e-commerce initiatives. The intern will gain real-world skills in digital marketing planning and execution, content development, and project management at a nonprofit with global impact. Upon orientation completion, the Social Media Intern will work with their supervisor to develop a work plan and project outline. Interns are required to develop a term project and presentation.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Develop visual and written content for social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube) to promote animals, exhibits, events, and programs.
  • Film, edit, and implement videos for social media and other marketing platforms.
  • Monitor and report on social media performance and recommend strategies to expand reach and engagement.
  • Assist in creating and executing email marketing campaigns.
  • Segment email lists and personalize email content.
  • Analyze email campaign performance and suggest improvements.
  • Support e-commerce initiatives by updating product listings and managing online store content.
  • Assist in developing strategies to increase online sales and improve customer experience.
  • Monitor e-commerce performance metrics.
  • Assist in developing materials for marketing plans, including tactics and personas.
  • Utilize data to provide suggestions on marketing tactics.
  • Provide miscellaneous support for needs from the marketing and communications team.
  • Attending on-site events as needed.
  • Meet deadlines and expectations to complete a project over the duration of the internship.
  • Professionally present the project to Butterfly Pavilion team members at the end of the internship.

Qualifications:

  • Creative mindset
  • Driven, proactive, and resourceful team member
  • Preference given if currently pursuing/completed a Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Advertising, or related subject
  • Basic knowledge of video editing using smart phone applications and/or any of these desktop applications preferred (iMovie, Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience with taking photos and videos on a smartphone or camera

Additional Requirements:

  • Equipment: Access to personal laptop or computer with internet connection is a plus, though loaner laptop can be provided if needed.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from both Butterfly Pavilion and the offsite office in Broomfield, Colorado
  • Must be currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Advertising, or related subject
  • Must be available for orientation on Tuesday, August 12th, 2025
  • Must be available for presentation of project on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2025

While performing the responsibilities of this position, the team member is required to talk and hear. The team member is occasionally required to reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. The team member should be able to lift, carry and items up to 50 lbs.
