Job Description

Managing the company’s compliance with all environmental statutory and regulatory requirements. Responsible for implementing and maintaining safety protocols, procedures and policies to ensure a safe working environment for all.

 

Responsibilities (Environmental):

  • Maintain working relations with regulatory agencies, specifically with both state and federal EPA representatives.
  • Researching, preparing and writing permit applications with the EPA, including Title V permits, PTI/PTO, and other permit applications.
  • Specific knowledge of Title V permit requirements
  • Serve as a liaison with regulatory agencies and act as a guide for all visits or inspections from the EPA.
  • Ensure inspections by regulatory agencies are coordinated and deficiencies minimized and corrected.
  • Perform administrative duties including, but not limited to, record keeping, filing, and updating of documents.
  • Prepare and submit EPA compliance reports including: MACT compliance, Deviation reports, Emission Fee reports, and Section 312/313 chemical inventory reporting.
  • Maintain SDS and TDS documents for all required chemicals in inventory.
  • Perform annual HazCom training for appropriate personnel.
  • Monitor and documents dust collector performance as required by permits.
  • Disposal of wastewater, waste solvents, universal waste, or other hazardous materials.

Responsibilities (Health and Safety):

  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety programs, policies, and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Practice safe working techniques and re-enforce the safety policies, guidelines, and procedures as set out by the Company.
  • Lead the Emergency Response Team and comply with all Company policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate with VP, Operations and General Manager on facility deficiencies and monthly safety inspections.
  • Provide daily guidance and direction in EHS programs at the employee / supervisor level to ensure a common and effective approach.
  • Review accidents and incidents which occur in the area of responsibility and conduct field audits, reporting and managing the corrective actions.
  • Lead the Emergency Response Team and comply with all Company policies and procedures.
  • Plans and implements programs to train supervisors and employees to meet standards and also to enhance the company safety culture.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of manufacturing processes, equipment, machinery, and facilities to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Responsible for assisting in the identification of possible losses; evaluating the risk in such loss exposure; developing and implementing a plan to correct or prevent a loss and audit the plan to ensure its effectiveness.
  • Maintain and update as needed SOP’s for all safe work practices and equipment and utilize them in the day to day training.
  • Assist with maintaining the Site Preparedness and Emergency Plans & Procedures.
  • Review accidents and incidents which occur in the area of responsibility and conduct field audits, reporting and managing the corrective actions.
  • Participates in Key Cooperative’s goal setting and budget process, in areas of safety and compliance.
  • Assists with the drug and alcohol testing program.
  • Assists with the company’s contractor safety program.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

  • The position is situated in an office environment and is climate controlled. Exposure to plant environment (operating machinery, temperature, noise, odors, dust, drafts and chemicals used in the manufacture of the product) during daily activities and interactions as required. Minimal travel required (generally less than 15%).
  • Office environment with appropriate office equipment, electronic systems (hardware & software) to effectively accomplish required work assignments and management of function.
  • Sitting, standing, lifting (generally under 20 lbs.), bending in performance of office related duties.
  • Ability to communicate orally with customers, vendors, management, and coworkers is crucial. Regular use of phone and email for communication is essential. Hearing and vision correctable to within normal ranges is essential for normal conversations, receiving ordinary information, and preparing or inspecting documents
  • The ability to remain in a stationary position roughly 50% of the time, as well as the ability to move about the office occasionally (accessing files/storage, office equipment, computers and other office productivity devices, attending meetings, etc.), is required.

Job Specification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant degree field of Environmental Health and Safety, Master degree is preferred.
  • 5 years’ experience in development, monitoring, and managing safety systems and environmental reporting.
  • Must possess strong computer skills within the Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Previous experience required in a EH&S field with a preference in Safety and Environmental reporting and compliance.
  • Learning time: After a brief orientation period to the facility and its methods and procedures, this position is expected to effectively provide competent expertise in this field in accordance with Corporate and Plant directives.

Physical Job Requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 20lbs independently.
  • Ability to stand for 8 to 12 hours.
  • Good hand/eye coordination.
