Position Summary:

\n

Astound is currently searching for a Fiber Design Engineer I, II or III in our Concord, CA office. This position is responsible for ensuring quality and timely deliveries of our fiber services along with additional services to customers. Skilled in network design and engineering with an understanding of OSP construction.

\n

The primary position responsibilities will include, but are not limited to :

    \n
  • Planning and designing fiber routes
  • \n
  • Analyze OTDR traces, evaluate characteristics of fiber, and document test results
  • \n
  • Work with Construction PM’s and/or field personnel to ensure quality and timely delivery of our services
  • \n
  • May perform quality checks of mapping and network design and approve design and/or construction changes
  • \n
  • Provide remote technical support as necessary to perform field service and additional assistance as required
  • \n
  • Provide fiber capacity checks for the Sales Engineers
  • \n
  • Assist in troubleshooting fiber circuits
  • \n
  • Design and document fiber splicing and fiber patch assignments for fiber circuits
  • \n
  • Maintain appropriate technical documentation
  • \n
  • Analyze and recommend upgrade/expansion strategies
  • \n
  • Must work on pacific time zone
  • \n

  • On call rotation responding and restoring services for emergency calls
  • \n
\n
    \n
  • Perform all work as necessary to conform to quality control guidelines (includes compliance with requirements outlined in applicable regulations such as: OSHA, FCC, NESC and NEC, etc. as well as following procedures as outlined in the Installation, Technical, Operations, Safety Manuals, and Employee Handbook)
  • \n
  • Work flexible hours, after hours work which would include nights and weekends
  • \n
  • Other duties as assigned

  • At least one year experience with fiber optic network documentation tools (OSP Insight preferred)
  • \n
  • Strong communication skills and a cooperative attitude toward co-workers
  • \n
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • \n
  • Valid driver's license, auto insurance, with a satisfactory driving record
  • \n
  • Strong analytical skills-ability to translate data to strategy
  • \n
  • Visual design skills are a strong plus
  • \n
  • Ability to work independently without supervision
  • \n
  • Ability to adhere to Local, Federal regulations and Company policies
  • \n
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including after hours, nights and weekends
  • \n
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude and strong work ethic 
  • \n
  • Ability to provide high productivity with minimal supervision
  • \n
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically
  • \n
  • Ability to interact effectively with other team members
  • \n
  • Valid Driver's license with clean driving record in compliance with company driving policy

Base Salary: The base salary range in California for this position is $71,000 - $122,000 annually, plus opportunities for bonus, benefits and commission, if applicable. The base pay range represents the low and high end of the hiring range for this job. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to relevant skills, experience, and capabilities. It is specific to California and may not be applicable to other locations.
