Job Summary:

The Head of Fine Art and Collections will play a strategic role in managing Private Client Select’s Fine Art and Collection products to achieve profit, growth, and operational effectiveness targets, including portfolio management and strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enforce consistent underwriting excellence by monitoring and ensuring adherence to risk appetite, underwriting standards and guidelines.
  • Monitor and enforce procedures to ensure business units adhere to the underwriting limits within the established risk appetite.
  • Ultimately have oversight for all field underwriting inquiries on Fine Art and Collections and responsibly manage $300,000,000 in personal underwriting authority.
  • Manage large risk referral protocol with PCS Chief Underwriting Officer.
  • Directly manage Home office Collections underwriters, including UW Director of Collections.
  • Continuously dialogue with underwriting, distribution, IT, and operations teams in order to reinforce the unique and often complicated requirements of the Fine Art and Collections product.
  • Engage with and provide direction to Underwriting Directors and Regional Underwriting Managers in relation to issues of pricing, coverage, manuscript endorsements and authority.
  • Regularly review rating and pricing adequacy across the entire portfolio; suggest adjustments when necessary to ensure profitability.
  • Assist with implementing and monitoring catastrophe/aggregate management strategies.
  • Monitor emerging risks and trends. Develop product pricing strategies to address and suggest new and enhanced coverages as appropriate.
  • Assist in the development of profitability and growth strategies in support of financial goals.
  • Develop and implement robust underwriting training regimen specific to Fine Art and Collections.
  • Assist in developing new products and assist in ensuring PCS remains competitive on risks that meet pricing and underwriting standards.
  • Conduct audits, quality reviews, and peer reviews, including implementation of action steps to improve underwriting results.
  • Regularly interface with PCS Product team and develop tactics to ensure operational efficiencies that support business goals and strategies.
  • Lead a culture of underwriting excellence by instilling an environment of accountability by setting clear expectations, measuring results, rewarding the right behavior and addressing consequences.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Education:

  • 10+ years Underwriting and Product Management experience in Personal Insurance.
  • Superior technical underwriting expertise.
  • Strong ability to interface with underwriting, IT, product management, compliance, legal and actuarial staff.
  • Strong strategic development, business building, project management, and project execution skills, with proven ability to deliver key projects and programs on time and on budget.
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to develop and present clear and concise analysis and recommendations to senior management.
  • Proven people management capabilities, including the ability to coach and motivate others.
  • Strong business acumen with a proven track record of making sound judgments backed by strong analytical skills.
  • Leadership and Organization – exceptional capacity for managing and leading peers; ability to connect staff both on an individual level and in large groups; capacity to enforce accountability, cultivate entrepreneurship, and learn the strengths and weaknesses of the team to put people in a position to succeed.
