Head of Public Relations - Foundational AI | SF Bay Area

We are a new, secretive AI research startup that is pioneering a paradigm shift in the development of AI systems with a scientifically feasible path to superintelligence. Founded by industry veterans and world-renowned academic professors.

The Role

Were seeking a Head of Public Relations to leverage the unique positioning of our startup to craft and control a high-impact narrative, strategically signal momentum, and reinforce exclusivity without visibility. Your work will directly support our capital formation and talent acquisition strategies, all while preserving the secretive and high-stakes nature of our research.

This role is not about volume, mass media coverage, or noise.

This is a high-trust, high-responsibility role for someone who sees communications as a tool for impact. Success in this role will not only shape our companys future but also impact the future of humanity at large . A proven track record across top-tier media, strategic communications firms, and influential circles are essential.

What Youll Do

1. Define and own the companys external narrative, crafting positioning that reflects our mission without disclosing sensitive R&D details.
2. Architect and execute a highly targeted, precision-driven PR strategy, including strategic scopes into elite media publications, only when aligned with capital or talent milestones.
3. Amplify exclusivity without visibility, building credibility without overexposure, in line with our stealth positioning and high-stakes nature.
4. Support Talent Acquisition and Capital teams by building reputation and brand gravity.
5. Drive internal clarity and alignment, ensuring key company milestones are coordinated with narrative arcs and PR sequencing.
6. Maintain absolute discretion, exercising full control over timing, messaging, and tone; understanding that what we withhold is as powerful as what we publish.
7. Proactively shape and maintain our positioning as the most anticipated, mission-aligned generational AI lab.

What You Bring

1. Deep understanding of the foundational AI landscape.
2. Proven experience leading communications for deep tech, or AI-focused startups.
3. Strong expertise in narrative design, brand positioning, and storytelling for elite, mission-driven organizations.
4. Demonstrated ability to generate targeted media coverage in top-tier and specialized publications.
5. Deep understanding of balancing visibility with confidentiality, especially for secretive or early-stage research ventures.
6. Excellent strategic thinking with the ability to align communications efforts to long-term company goals and fundraising milestones.
7. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, capable of crafting compelling narratives that resonate with sophisticated audiences.
8. SF Bay Area resident.

Most Importantly

This is a highly sophisticated and strategic role within an intensely intellectual and competitive AI environment, where precision and discretion are critical. The position mandates extensive and proven momentum, with at least 8+ years of C-level or equivalent leadership experience in communications, ideally in AI. Given the high stakes and fierce competition in AI, this role is absolutely critical for shaping the companys narrative and positioning. Only a seasoned leader with demonstrated strategic acumen and a mission-driven mindset can excel here.
