About the role:

The Mortgage Underwriter is responsible for reviewing, assessing, and analyzing all aspects of mortgage loan requests including second mortgage. This position also evaluates the risks of offering loans in order to approve/decline credit extension in addition to maximizing profit and minimizing risk/loss by following internal/external guidelines.

This position has a starting hourly rate of $31.49 , but your offer amount may be increased with relevant work experience and transferrable skills.

A Day in the life of a Mortgage Underwriter can look like:

  • Calculate, analyze, evaluate, and make independent decisions on credit, income, assets, property, and risk to determine probability of repayment for all loan requests (1st and 2nd mortgages).
  • Appropriate timing of decisions and notifications to guarantee compliance with regulations, policy and procedures.
  • Communicate the disposition of all credit applications to appropriate parties (credit union salesperson, loan processor, etc.).
  • Provide loan support to Sales team members.
  • Verify 1st and 2nd mortgage loan documentation for accuracy, completion, and adherence to policies and procedures.

What you bring to the table:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3 years of experience in the mortgage lending field or a related field.
  • Ability to obtain Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) registration.
  • Demonstrated high degree of creative decision-making and latitude.
  • Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the Lending field.
  • Advanced/wide degree of experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Proficiency using Excel and Word.

You might also have:

  • 5 years of experience in the mortgage lending field.
  • HUD direct endorsement.
