Job Description

Orthopedic Technician

Orthopedic technicians work directly with orthopedic doctors and surgeons in the treatment of bone and joint injuries. Principally, orthopedic technology involves the application and removal of casts, splints and braces. Applicant must be able to adjust crutches, walkers and other aids and provide instructions to patients in their use.

Responsibilities can include but are not limited to:

  • Apply, adjust and remove casts
  • Measure and fit patients for braces and other orthopedic devices
  • Assist Orthopedic Surgeon in reduction of fractures
  • Instruct patients in proper care of casts and splints
  • Instruct patients in the use of crutches and other durable medical equipment (DME)
  • Clean and stock patient exam and treatment rooms
  • Monitor casting supply inventory
  • Adhere to established clinic/office policy and procedure directives
  • Complete EMR documentation of services performed
  • Triage patients' questions regarding casts, splints and DME
  • Schedule patients for DME fittings
  • Additional administrative duties, as necessary

Requirements:

  • Previous experience with DME insurance coverage preferred, but not required
  • 3+ years of experience casting lower and upper extremities preferred
  • Must have night and weekend availability. One night a week, and two Saturdays a month.

Candidates will be courteous, articulate and reliable, and must be able to multitask in a busy, professional, fast-moving environment while maintaining excellent customer service.
