CACI is looking for an experienced Spacecraft Embedded Flight Software (FSW) Systems Engineer to support development of a Compact Flight Computer (CFC) for the Orion spacecraft. The CFC will provide an additional processor to host Orion docking FSW and other applications. The work involves working with NASA’s Core Flight Software (cFS) running on a Real-Time Executive for Multiprocessor Systems (RTEMS) platform. The work includes developing and executing tests, analyzing test results, and generating related documentation for pre-certification of cFS/RTEMS Class A safety critical FSW. This position requires a self-motivated, capable person with strong verbal and written communication skills. In addition to outstanding technical expertise, the individual must be very people savvy, have strong customer relationship skills, possess a positive team-player attitude, be flexible and willing to take on new assignments and responsibilities as they arise, and be an articulate speaker able to communicate complex technical ideas in a convincing manner. The individual must share our passion for our Nation's Space Program and share in the excitement of developing the next human-rated space vehicles. Responsibilities include performing hardware/software integration on Orion spacecraft systems; integrating the cFS Operating System Abstraction Layer (OSAL) and Platform Specific Package (PSP) with RTEMS; developing test plans and procedures for certification of cFS/RTEMS software as class A safety critical software; developing and executing test scripts for testing on emulated targets as well as development and production hardware; analyzing test results and performing software troubleshooting; providing software products and metrics per NASA Spacecraft Software Engineering Team (SSET) standards for class A safety critical flight software; generating documentation including User Manuals, Developer’s Guides, Software Development Plans, and Configuration Management Plans for FSW pre-certification packages. This work takes place at NASA/JSC in Houston, TX, a highly stimulating and dynamic environment critical in human space flight and space exploration initiative. Qualifications required include U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency, B.S. in Aerospace, Electrical, Computer or Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related disciplines, at least five years of related experience in human-rated real-time safety critical flight software in aerospace or other industries, experience with hardware/software integration, flexibility, strong technical expertise, strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to manage multiple priorities with little supervision, and strong work ethic. Desired qualifications include M.S. in related fields, experience with embedded software development and debugging, real-time operating systems like RTEMS, NASA’s Core Flight Software (cFS), FSW Verification and Validation, Class A safety-critical FSW certification experience, familiarity with NASA SSET standards and NPR 7150.2C, and experience with software configuration management tools such as Git and Subversion.
