VMSI is seeking a highly experienced Senior Network Security Engineer II to support the design, operation, and ongoing security of a large-scale federal network environment. This role will play a critical part in safeguarding the organization’s infrastructure by monitoring traffic patterns, improving network performance, implementing advanced security measures, and providing expertise in incident resolution and forensic analysis. Key Responsibilities: Monitor and analyze network traffic patterns across enterprise infrastructure to detect anomalies, vulnerabilities, or performance issues. Design and implement secure network architectures and recommend solutions to optimize reliability and reduce degradation. Configure and manage routers, switches, firewalls, and network appliances in accordance with established security standards. Lead proactive incident resolution, including root cause analysis, forensic analysis, and corrective action planning. Provide recommendations to enhance network security posture based on knowledge of current threats, vulnerabilities, malware, and mitigation techniques. Coordinate and communicate effectively with cross-functional IT teams to ensure smooth implementation of network changes and incident resolutions. Ensure all networking activities adhere to organizational policies, industry best practices, and federal compliance standards. Manage production and disaster recovery networks with a focus on security, availability, and scalability. Operate, tune, and manage network-focused monitoring systems and logging tools. Deliver network design and architecture services for current and future state infrastructure planning. Collaborate with Infrastructure Services Group to scope technical approaches, implement proposed network changes, and document outcomes. Required Qualifications: Demonstrated experience building and supporting large-scale, multi-site network architectures. Expertise in secure remote access technologies, including IPsec and VPN. Strong understanding of network and system-level attack vectors and associated mitigation methods. Hands-on experience with Cisco Firewalls including Firepower NGFW and ASA. Deep understanding of routing and security protocols, including deployment best practices. Experience performing forensic analysis and packet inspection to support security incident investigations.
