Position Summary:

The Director of Sales is responsible for leading and executing the sales strategy across our Chicago area market. This role will oversee a team of field sales executives, independent sales agents (1099), and account development professionals, driving revenue growth through customer acquisition, expansion of existing accounts, and execution of high-level sales initiatives. Reporting directly to executive leadership, the Director of Sales plays a key role in aligning business development efforts with corporate goals, building talent, and ensuring the organization maintains its position as a premier logistics partner in the region.

Key Responsibilities:

Sales Strategy & Execution

  • Develop and implement market-specific sales strategies to support revenue growth across all service lines, including LTL, FTL, Local Cartage, Domestic Air Freight, Expedited Truckload, White Glove, and Warehousing
  • Set performance targets and manage execution through clear KPIs, pipeline discipline, and weekly forecasting
  • Identify emerging market trends and customer needs to shape go-to-market plans and service positioning
  • Collaborate with executive leadership on pricing strategies, margin management, and revenue planning
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of field sales representatives, independent sales agents (1099), and account executives
  • Establish clear performance expectations, coaching programs, and professional development pathways
  • Conduct weekly in-person sales meetings to review activity, remove roadblocks, and reinforce goals
  • Promote a high-performance, customer-focused sales culture rooted in accountability and ownership
  • Support strategic prospecting and client meetings to help close key opportunities
  • Strengthen and expand relationships with existing customers to increase share of wallet and retention
  • Attend client-facing events, trade shows, and entertainment outings to represent the company and deepen engagement
  • Drive referral activity, customer loyalty, and strategic account planning initiatives
  • Oversee CRM adoption and data integrity in platforms such as Zoho and ZoomInfo
  • Partner with marketing to develop territory-specific campaigns, sales decks, and enablement tools
  • Review and approve sales expense reporting, team scheduling, and territory planning
  • Leverage performance analytics to identify strengths, gaps, and areas for scalable improvement

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of leadership experience in transportation, logistics, or supply chain sales
  • Proven success managing field sales teams and driving consistent revenue growth
  • Deep understanding of LTL, FTL, Local Cartage, and Domestic Air Freight, with working knowledge of Expedited, Warehousing, and White Glove services
  • Strong familiarity with B2B sales processes, consultative selling, and client relationship development
  • Hands-on experience with CRM platforms (Zoho preferred) and sales analytics tools
  • Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach and ability to lead by example
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Must be based in or willing to work full-time in the Santa Fe Springs office and surrounding region
  • This position is 50% in-office and 50% outside sales, actively supporting your team with client visits and field engagement.
